HYDERABAD: The city received heavy rains on Sunday morning, bringing with it water-logging of roads and inundation of low-lying areas.
Residents of Manikonda experienced heavy water-logging that Panchavati junction and Anjali Gardens, showing that nothing had been done to ease the problems.
Venkat Mamilla from Alkapur Township, who runs the ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account Mana Manikodna, posted a video clip of rainwater submerging the road near Mount Litera Zee School at Anjali Garden.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Venkat said, “Panchavati circle and Anjali Garden are two major junctions in Manikonda and they experience severe water-logging after rains. Nala encroachment and large constructions have blocked the outlets for the water to flow into the Neknampur lake and Malkam Cheruvu through Pandan vagu and Balkapur nala. Several complaints to the GHMC and a field visit by CDMA officials have not changed anything.”
Another resident said that the issue has been persisting since 2019. Roads become inaccessible in the area which was known as a residential hub for IT professionals. The authorities had assured that the issue would be fixed there has been no headway.
Meanwhile, later in the day, light to moderate rain was recorded in Adilabad, Jagtial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Medak, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalle, Rajanna Sircilla and Siddipet districts.
The IMD said that a low-pressure area was likely to form under the influence of cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal in the next 48 hours. A cyclonic circulation lies over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Telangana.
Under the influence of these systems, heavy to very rains with thunderstorms and lightning are very likely to occur at many places in the state in the next three days towards which an orange alert has been issued.
