Probe allegations by S P Sukesan: Oommen Chandy

Mr Chandy said he was not afraid or worried about any probe against the UDF government led by him.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former chief minister Oommen Chandy said the allegations raised by investigating officer S.P. Sukesan regarding derailment of bar bribe probe should be investigated. At a press conference, he said if the case had been derailed or sabotaged by the then vigilance director then that should be brought within the purview of the probe. If the allegations are proved wrong after the probe then action should be initiated against the officer who levelled them, he added.

The allegation that Mani tried to topple UDF government was not only false but no such matter had come to his knowledge at any point of time, he said while replying to a question. Mr Chandy said the government should provide beneficiaries, the option of receiving welfare pensions according to their convenience. His statement comes in the wake of allegations that welfare pensions are being disbursed by CPM workers to draw political mileage.

Mr Chandy said he was not afraid or worried about any probe against the UDF government led by him. "Those who have been going around and saying that the previous government was neck deep in corruption have been examining such charges for the past 100 days,” he said while taking a dig at the LDF Government subcommittee probing the decisions of the UDF government.

On self financing college fee issue, the former chief minister said that those who had launched agitation when only a meagre hike was imposed in fee, have now increased significantly. “Let them now admit that the agitations they organised in the past were uncalled for. The opposition is covering constructive and effective activities and the UDF style is not similar to the CPM which believes in destroying public property and unleashing violence.

“The LDF government’s decision to continue with many of our projects and schemes is welcome. If they implement good policies we will support and back the government,” he said. The former chief minister urged the government not to shelve the hill highways project. “The LDF continuing with student entrepreneurship policy was good. Also if the government keeps the MoU signed by the previous government it would be beneficial for the state,” headed.
