VS Achuthanandan seeks special probe teams for graft cases

The vigilance court order was upheld by the High Court on December 2014.

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran CPM leader V S Achuthanandan on Thursday demanded setting up of special investigation teams to expedite the probe into pending high profile corruption cases in the state. Achuthandan said such a measure was needed if the state government were to keep its anti corruption image intact. He urged Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau director Jacob Thomas to take immediate steps in this direction.

The veteran leader said the ongoing investigations into Pattoor land issue, Titanium, micro finance corruption and bar bribe cases need to be expedited. The Thiruvananthapuram vigilance court had directed registration of case against former chief minister Oommen Chandy, former ministers Ibrahim Kunju, Ramesh Chennithala and officials concerned and also detailed probe into the matter.

The vigilance court order was upheld by the High Court on December 2014. “I had already demanded this case be probed by an SIT headed by SP. However, even the vigilance investigation is not happening now. VS said in micro finance graft, barring registration of FIR against SNDP leader Vellapally Natesan following a court directive, nothing much has happened in the case so far. It is suspected that the case was being sabotaged using contacts of influential persons, he said.
