Higher Secondary classes will go hi-tech in a month: C Raveendranath

Finance minister assures that state will show no compromise on spending money for revamping the education sector

KOZHIKODE: A comprehensive two-day workshop to revamp the schooling system to boost the quality of students passing out began at Nadakkavu Girls Higher Secondary School here on Monday. Briefing on the workshop that targets to create a master plan, education minister C. Raveendranath said in a month’s time, the entire Class VIII to X of government schools will go hi-tech with trained teachers guiding students.

“These classrooms will have facilities such as the internet, static IP system, computer and LCD projector,” he said. "The master plan will include revision of curriculum, development of infrastructure and setting up teaching protocols and all the innovative ideas from education officers and other officials will help the mission."

Inaugurating the workshop, finance minister TM Thomas Isaac said the state needed nearly Rs 13,000 crore for various projects but will show no compromise on spending money for the education sector. “Our mission is to stop the decline in standards,” he said.

Legislator A. Pradeep Kumar detailed about the PRISM project implemented at Nadakkavu school and various other schools in his constituency. The workshop also decided to join hands with institutions like NIT, IIT, IIM and Regional Science Center and Planetarium to train teachers. The workshop will conclude on Tuesday with detailed presentations on the master plan.
