AP officials alerted about impending cyclone

Visakhapatnam: Agriculture commissioner Ch. Hari Kiran has asked departmental officials to be alert about the impending cyclonic storm and warn farmers about it using various forms of media.

In a video conference with officials of all 26 districts on Thursday, he asked all agricultural officials of the state to remain available to the state administration in the wake of the cyclone warning issued by the meteorological department.

Hari Kiran pointed out that Kharif paddy is currently being harvested in most areas. Farmers must thus be advised to quickly complete their harvest and store the crop safely.

He emphasised that guidelines given for the Kharif season e-crop will be applicable for the Rabi crop season as well. As gram, millet, and sorghum are shorter-period crops, farmers can harvest them early. Farmers can use the current weather conditions to quickly plant their next crops.

On the supply of seeds, the agriculture commissioner said if rains in the next 3–4 days due to cyclones are beneficial, they should be utilised. For this purpose, unsold seeds should be sold. Officials who still need gram seeds should send an indent before December 15.
