Chennai: Cops create duplicate SIM card for Swathi's phone data

They are hoping to pick up traces of possible digital evidence from the restored backup data of her phone.

Chennai: Investigators probing last week’s murder of Infosys employee Swathi at Nungambakkam railway station are digging deep into the mobile data of the deceased by getting a duplicate SIM card.

They are hoping to pick up traces of possible digital evidence from the restored backup data of her phone, which was taken away by the killer.

The sleuths are already in possession of the hard disk of her office computer and home computer along with other electronic gadgets belonging to her.

Sources said the probe team is hoping to get all her old phone data by creating a duplicate SIM and inserting the same in a phone which had the same operating system as hers.

The police had taken all her call details from the service provider, but the detectives are hoping to get back up data of other message services she was using.

Most phone operating systems allow you to restore the app data in a new phone from Google drive or Cloud if you have not deleted the data in the earlier phone, a cyber crime expert noted.

“Because the killer had taken the phone, the investigators are now trying to find out if Swathi’s phone contained any evidence that would lead them to the killer by recreating her phone,” sources said.
