Dharamapuri: A teenage girl, upset following her father breaking his promise not to consume alcohol, killed herself in a village near here. Her body was found hanging from the ceiling of her house.
Police said on Thursday that 13-year-old Kanimozhi, a class seven student of a private school and daughter of a truck driver Murugan of Jothi Nagar in Maravadai village in Dharmapuri district, died by hanging.
The incident occurred on Wednesday and came to light after her relatives took Kanimozhi to the Dharmapuri medical college and hospital, where she was declared ‘brought dead’.
The girl’s kin, when questioned, told the police that the teenage girl committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling of her house with a ‘dupatta’, part of her school uniform.
Kanimozhi, they said, took the extreme step on returning from school after her mother informed that her father had again consumed alcohol and was sleeping in another room.
The Krishnapuram police of Dharmapuri district registered a case and the body of Kanimozhi was handed over to her relatives after completing the post-mortem.
