Roshan Baig skips flood-hit areas in Bengaluru

Opposition sources said if the minister had visited the flood affected area, residents would have gheraoed him.

Bengaluru: While inspecting flood affected areas on Saturday, Urban Development and Infrastructure Minister Roshan Baig made sure that he visited water logged areas only in his constituency and avoided areas like Kodichikkanahalli, which bore the brunt of rain fury mainly due to poor infrastructure. Opposition sources said if the minister had visited the flood affected area, residents would have gheraoed him.

Mr Baig visited the underpass at Cantonment and pulled up the concerned major works engineer for not carrying out desilting work, which has caused flooding at the underpass. He then traveled to several ‘black spots’ on Broadway road in Shivajinagar and pulled up engineers concerned and warned them of stringent actions.

BBMP sources said one of the engineers, responsible for Broadway Road, had switched off his mobile phone and was observing the bandh, protesting against Mahadayi tribunal’s decision, while the Minister and other senior BBMP officials were busy with inspection in his area.

The minister also instructed Vijay Shankar, Special Commissioner, Projects and Yathish Kumar, Joint Commissioner of the area to remove encroachments and clear garbage. Some major roads in the area that were not laid were also inspected.

He later visited Tannery Road and inspected the railway underpass there and then left to attend a function at the Haj Committee office.
