Poor in Hyderabad to get 1,000 acres free

The government will assign up to three acres to each family. Beneficiaries have been selected by the respective collectors.

Hyderabad: The state government plans to distribute 1,000 acres of agriculture land to SC, ST and poor families from the BC communities on June 2, TS formation day.

The chief commissioner of land administration has identified government land parcels across the state. More than 10,000 acres is available in the government’s land bank for development programmes, the 2BHK scheme and distribution of lands to poor families.

The government will assign up to three acres to each family. Beneficiaries have been selected by the respective collectors. CCLA J. Raymond Peter said the proposals are ready for implementation.

A source in the revenue department said the Chief Minister had directed collectors during the recent conference to identify assigned land which were not in use and not in possession of beneficiaries.

“Revenue staff have been verifying records of assigned land. About 20 per cent of assigned land was found to be misused by assignees and sold to others. Most of these were identified in Ranga Reddy district,” he said.

Nearly 1.58 lakh acres of assigned land was distributed to 1.15 lakh beneficiaries earlier in Ranga Reddy district. Of this, officials found about 10,000 acre had been misused.
