Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi said that the teachers should promote ‘revolutionary learning’ and bring out proficient youth. She was addressing the 25th convocation of Pondicherry Central University here on Saturday.

The Lt Governor, who is also the chief rector of the university, asked the students to focus on self-study and with library access being available now coupled with development in technology they could make strides in their career.

Pointing out the importance of universities and governments working together in various areas, Ms Bedi said, “We should work together by sinking differences.

Corruption would fall substantially” Bedi appealed to the students and youth to take up community projects to achieve the goal of the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan.

“The University has 6,000 students and the whole Puducherry having 60,000 youth could together take up the cleanliness drive”, she said. Bedi assured that Modi would be visiting Puducherry if the city achieves the goal of “clean Puducherry”.

Madras High Court judge, Justice R. Mahadevan, while delivering the convocation address, appealed to the youths to make use of the opportunities available to them abundantly both internally and also globally. “The youth should also nurture their potentialities through self-examination to identify their Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges (SWOC).” he said.

Mahadevan lauded the university for its contributions in the field of higher education and said, “within the span of 32 years the university has been emerging as a centre of excellence in teaching, research and extension activities by offering multidisciplinary courses as a pioneering Institute in India”.
