Andhra University student bags national award

The Union minister for sports and youth affairs Sarvanand Sonowal presented the award to the youth.

Visakhapatnam: S. Sarat Kumar, a student from Andhra University, who is also a social activist and a Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dancer, has received the prestigious national youth award for rendering best services to the society.

Sarat is pursuing commerce and management from the Andhra University. The Union minister for sports and youth affairs Sarvanand Sonowal presented the award to the youth.

“I love to help others and used to participate actively as a volunteer in various programmes of the government like supplying of drinking water, sanitation in villages, service to old-age people and health camps since when I was in Class IV,” Sarat said.

He has not only participated in NGC (National Green Corps), but also encouraged his classmates to join the corps.

His contribution to youth oriented programmes on National Integration, Youth Exchange and Voter Awareness mainly got his name in the award list. “During my intermediate, I went to villages to create awareness on health, blood donation and Swachh Bharat, Swine Flu and AIDS,” Sarat added.

Apart from being a social activist, Sarat Kumar performs dance roles of women on stage apart from his regular male roles.


“I gave many Kuchipudi, and Bharatnatyam performances across India. In the National Youth Festivals held in Bhubaneswar (2010) and Udaipur (2011), I won and got second and third places respectively and received prizes from the Chief Minister of the states,” Sarat added.
