Hyderabad: Drive against drunk driving ends, 97 held

Over 45 people were given two days and nine people were given a ten day jail.

Hyderabad: Over 97 people were arrested for drunk driving in the city in the past one week. The drive against drunk driving began on October 23 and ended on Friday. All the accused were imprisonment for two to ten days.

Mr A.V. Ranganath, deputy commissioner of police, traffic, said, “The court ordered the jail term according to the level of alcohol in one’s blood and the vehicle used.”

Over 45 people were given two days and nine people were given a ten-day jail. Seven drivers had their licences suspended. While three licences were suspended for six months, three got two years and one driver got his licence suspended for one year. The police said that violators will face difficulty while applying for jobs and passports. The drive is proving successful as there are almost no repeat offenders. “Three years back, a drunken driver was caught five times. Now we have to scout for repeat offenders and that is a big change. Since everything is Aadhaar-linked, information about the case will not remain in private realm,” Mr. A.V. Ranganath added.
