Chandrababu Naidu assures all help to Fatima Institute of Medical Sciences students

Health minister to present the case to Centre tomorrow.

Vijayawada: The students of the Fatima Institute of Medical Sciences (FIMS) met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to discuss their grievances, but their problems remain unresolved. The students of FIMS had climbed a mobile tower to highlight their situation and this had upset the Chief Minister. He however assured the students that the government was doing everything within its capacity to resolve the crisis.

On Monday, the affected students and parents met the Chief Minister in the Assembly and he requested them to be patient. “We will urge the Central government to intervene and push this case forward in the SC,” he said. “If the Supreme Court grants permission soon, all the affected students who have qualified for Neet will get a confirmed seat in FIMS or any other medical college. Students who have not qualified would be admitted to Neet coaching classes, and the government would bear the cost,” he added.

The Chief Minister suggested that the students form a committee to coordinate with a special cell in the government, dedicated to solving the problem. He asked the officials to ensure that the call centre informs the affected students, and keep them updated. Health minister Dr Kamineni Srinivas, accompanied by government officials and students will make a visit to Delhi on November 29 and 30 to present the case to the Central government.

The Chief Minister had a serious discussion about the issue with the students for about two hours. The students of FIMS assembled at Dharna Chowk at 7 am on Monday for their appointment with the CM at 9 am. Later officials arrived and escorted them to the Assembly.

The students first met minister Kamineni Srinivas at the Assembly lobby. After some serious discussions with the minister he promised them that the government would take action against the Fatima Medical College management. Later they met the Chief Minister. He promised the students that all the cases registered against the students regarding the protests would be withdrawn.

“We are feeling a sense of relief after the CM’s assurance as he had taken the issue of the climbing of the mobile tower very seriously. We had asked the CM who was responsible for the loss of seats in the other colleges despite his assurance at the time of the Nandyal election. The CM then asked minister Kamineni Srinivas and took a serious note of the minister not giving a proper feedback on the matter. The CM also objected to the interference of MLA Jaleel Khan. He promised to be in telephonic or video conference contact with all the 100 affected students of FIMS till all their problems were resolved,” said Mujeer, a student of FIMS who met the CM. Mr Munwar, Mr Sharook, Mr Vishnu, Ms Kausar Khan, Miss Narveen, Mr Ehthessyam and Dr Lakshmi Prasanna were present during the discussions with the CM.

Meanwhile, the state government has passed a resolution on the issue of Fatima college students in Assembly and Council on Monday. The government has identified the issue as the problem related to one hundred students. The state government has discussed with the Union government and Medical Council of India (MCI) several times and appealed the Union government to intervene and urged the Centre to approach the Supreme Court, for a meaningful solution, the resolution has stated.
