Mullapally Ramachandran promises to empower women leaders

Assures representation in 25,000 booth committees during party revamp.

Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran has promised to give representation to women in 25,000 booth committees when the party is revamped. Inaugurating the meeting of Mahila Congress at Indira Bhavan, he said that the KPCC will ensure women empowerment this time.

Mr Ramachandran told the meeting, the first of the Mahila Congress after he took charge, that he had asked the local Congress bodies that at least one woman should be appointed as an office-bearer in the mandalam committee.

The closed-door meeting was out of bounds to the media after the initial photo session.

According to party sources, he told Mahila Congress leaders that there was no point in holding posts as there was no dearth of women leaders in the party. He also expressed his unhappiness over the absence of Mahila Congress leader from Kasargod at the meeting.

“The Kasargod woman Congress leader said that she had an important ward meeting to attend. This antagonised the KPCC president. The women leaders also told him about being neglected at party programmes,” a source told DC. Mr Ramachandran urged the women leaders to protest against the price rise.

“We are trying to give adequate representation to all sections of the people in the party. There is no need to stoop low as women will get respect and due recognition,” said Mr Mullapally.
