BJP president Amit Shah hails SNDP Yogam

Opens 90th Narayana Guru samadhi observation.

Thiruvananthapuram: BJP national president Amit Shah has paid glowing tributes to Sree Narayana Guru and said he had upheld Hindu culture and revived the traditional beliefs, literature and language.

The steps taken by him laid the foundation for the safety of Hindu community, he said after inaugurating the 90th samadhi commemoration of Guru at Sivagiri which was jointly organised by the Sivagiri Mutt and SNDP Yogam.

"Guru emphasized 'freedom through education, strength through organisation, economic independence through industry.’

His messages through upanishads were conveyed in simple and lucid style to the people," he added.

He also said that though Guru was born in a socially backward community, he gave strong messages against religious conversion.

He recalled the words of Rabindranath Tagore who said that though he had met several priests earlier, he had never met a social reformer like Guru.

He eulogized the work of SNDP Yogam and the strides made by it in the education sector.

For the second time on Saturday, Mr Shah also lashed out at the LDF government and warn-ed that if it went on suppressing the believers on the Sabarimala issue, the NDA and SNDP Yogam will not sit quiet.

He reiterated that the BJP stood by the devotees and added that the BJP would go to any extent to support their sentiments.

"Now the situation in Kerala is similar to the Emergen-cy era. The rights of the devotees have to be protected. Equality betwee-n men and women is of paramount importance," he said.
