Osmania University Teachers' Association alleges Telangana Govt encroaches land

The teachers alleged that OU Executive Council, which has to decide whether or not to hand over the land to the government, had not met.

Hyderabad: The Osmania University Teachers' Association on Thursday alleged that the state government had encroached part of the land belonging to Osmania University’s Nizamia Observatory near Panjagutta to build the extension of the Chief Minister’s camp office.

They said work was going on on the portion of land that is located right beside the school for specially abled children inside the observatory campus.

The teachers alleged that OU Executive Council, which has to decide whether or not to hand over the land to the government, had not met.

Sources said almost six acres, worth about Rs 40 crore, had been encroached. There were protests by student organisations before the work had commenced on the land.

OU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S. Ramachandram said the allegations are not true. Principal secretary, roads and buildings, Sunil Sharma did not comment.

Outa president Prof. Battu Satyanarayana said, “The government plans to celebrate the centenary of OU next year but is itself encroaching on the university’s lands rather than freeing the land parcels of the university which have been encroached over the years.”

OUTA and OU Retired Teachers Association demanded that the encroa-ched land along with newly constructed structures must be returned to the university.
