BENGALURU: Mysuru Road, which has been in a pathetic condition after the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) started Phase 2 of work on the stretch, will soon get a makeover, giving relief to commuters.
BMRCL has decided to repair the stretch of Mysuru Road from Nayandahalli Metro station to NICE Road. The road that was already in a bad shape turned into a crater-filled nightmare after the recent spate of rains and motorists had been venting their anger on Twitter.
The BMRCL announced that it will spend Rs 10.79 crore to restore the road, drains and footpaths. In 2016, under Phase II of Namma Metro, work was taken to extend the Purple Line from Mysuru Road station till Kengeri. Motorists and pedestrians have had a tough time navigating the stretch due to Metro pillars on the median. People complain that the road has not been widened adequately and people are forced to walk on the uneven road adding to the chaos. Dust rising from the construction work has led to health complications.
“We have received many complaints but we were waiting for the construction to get over. The decision to restore the stretch must come as a relief to thousands of motorists. A tender has already been floated and work is expected to be completed within six months after the contract is awarded," a senior BMRCL official told Deccan Chronicle.
According to another source from BMRCL, the corporation is planning to open the extension of Purple Line Metro for commercial operations by October 2020.
