Vytilla Mobility Hub to facilitate overnight stay

The aim is to facilitate the overnight stay of commuters.

Kochi: The Vytilla Mobility Hub will have facilities like world-class executive dormitory accommodation, similar to that of Kochi Metro at MG Road, in its second phase development for which a detailed project report is underway.

“The aim is to facilitate the overnight stay of commuters. We’ll also provide provision for 24-hour watch and ward facility besides parking space for private vehicles so that the Hub will be a safe place to halt even for families during nights,” said a senior VMHS official.

A high-level meet chaired by district collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla, also the managing director of Vytilla Mobility Hub Society, was held the other day when consultant IPE Global Ltd presented three design concepts it developed.

There will be separate parking bays for city buses (near Vytilla side). “The city buses will not enter the main hub while parking bays for long-haul buses and inter-state buses (idle parking facility for up to 70 buses) will be provided at the eastern end of the hub.

The meeting decided that the final concept will be selected only after consulting with officials of the National Highway Development Authority (NHAI), entrusted with the development of the Vytilla Junction because the hub entrance and exit will be decided based on their junction development plan,” the official said.

The Kochi metro will pass through the hub at the height of eight metres, and there will be a separate walkway for pedestrians to reach various ends like Boat jetty.

Phase-II involves the construction of 120 bus bays and an underground parking bay for 1,000 two-wheelers and 800 cars among others. A total area of 25.16 acres was earmarked for the second phase development. The DPR is expected to be submitted by November.
