Ganapatideva built temple on the banks of Krishna River

Though the inscription was copied exactly 100 years ago in 1917.

Vijayawada: The inscriptions had revealed that Ganapathideva built a temple for Visweswara and attached a Sanskrit college, a Matha for Shaivates, a choultry for feeding people without distinction of caste and creed, and a general and maternity hospital, besides some grants for their maintenance.

Though the inscription was copied exactly 100 years ago in 1917, only the year of the inscription was deciphered as 1261 AD.

Dr Sivanagi Reddy, after a critical examination and interpretation of the inscription for the first time, revealed that the inscription was set up on the birthday i.e. on March 25, 1261 AD as mentioned in the inscription. ( Loham koyam sakasyabde durmatau Vatsare subha chaitre sitetarastha-myam vare sukrabhida - meaning Friday, March 25, 1261 AD).

Dr Reddy also holds that it was on the same day that Ganapathideva demitted his office and Rudramadevi assumed charge i.e., coroneted as Rudradeva maharajulu, besides celebrating her birthday.

Though she was born at Warangal, she preferred to celebrate her birthday and coronated at Mandadam on the banks of the Krishna River, where its course takes to the northern direction, which is considered as auspicious and pious.
