Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government will constitute a welfare board for retired police officials and also initiate a master health check scheme for all police personnel aged 30.
Winding up the debate on the demand for grants for the Home Department, a portfolio which he holds, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami informed the Assembly on Wednesday that new posts would be created in the police department at Rs 13.51 crore.
Three Armed Reserve wings would be created in the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court at Rs 12.02 crore and posts for it would be created at a cost of Rs 1.04 crore, in addition to setting up of a new police station at Rs 5.73 crore, he said.
About 18 Vajra riot control vehicles would be purchased at Rs 3.96 crore, apart from 15 Varun riot control vehicles for Rs 9.75 crore. The Chief Minister also announced shifting of the headquarters of the Coastal Security Group from Nagapattinam to Chennai.
The state would institute a new award of Chief Minister's medal for excellence in forensic sciences to two forensic personnel and the medals would be presented on the birth anniversary of late Chief Minister C. N. Annadurai.
Mr. Palaniswami who made a slew of announcements for the fire service department, informed that new buildings would be constructed and modern equipment would be purchased for various wings of the police department, including the fire services department. He also announced a revision of long service special pay to the personnel working in fire and rescue services department, apart from formation of new fire and rescue services stations.
