Jesna missing case: Kerala High Court no' to habeas corpus

KOCHI: The High Court on Tuesday dismissed a habeas corpus petition in the case connected with the disappearance of Jesna Maria James, a degree student of Mukkootuthara in Pathanamithatta district. The court said there was no evidence to show that Jesna has been under the custody of someone and the investigation team trying to find her whereabouts.

The court observed that since another petition seeking CBI probe is already in the consideration of the court the habeas corpus petition has no relevance. Shaun George, a political activist has filed habeas corpus petition. The court said that senior police officials are monitoring probe into the disappearance and added that if the complainant is not satisfied with the ongoing probe the petitioner can exercise other options.

A division bench has also said that the observations made in connection with this petition will not have any bearing on other petitions in connection with the case. The investigation team has submitted in the court that so far they could not unearth any solid evidence of the circumstances leading to the disappearance of the girl studying for a degree course.
