Chennai: The Chennai district election officer and Corporation Commissioner, D. Karthikeyan, has issued a statement requesting political parties to use vehicles with loudspeakers for campaigning within the permissible sound limit.
“As public exams are going on, city students are under pressure, political parties should ensure that students do not face discomfort and disturbance from the campaigning processes,” the statement read.
Among other requests, he added that all vehicles to be used for campaigning should have No Objection Certificates from the Regional Transport Offices. Also, bigger vehicles like video vans being used for campaigning should have clearance from poll officials.
The statement said that all polling candidates and independent candidates must have prior permission from the Election monitoring committee before beginning the campaigning.
