Kochi: LeT suspect Abdul Kader released

The state police and the central agencies received no substantial evidence against Mr Rahim to link him to any terrorist activities.

Kochi: The police on Sunday released Abdul Kader Rahim, a native of Kodungallur detained on suspicion of terror links on Saturday.

After more than 24 hours of detention and questioning, the police let him go and asked to appear before it or any other agencies whenever required.

The central agencies, including National Investigation Agency (NIA), along with the Q Branch of Tamil Nadu Police, questioned him on an intelligence input that members of the dreaded Lashkar-e-Taiba had infiltrated into Tamil Nadu.

“The inquiry has completed for the time being. Further actions will be taken only after verification of his statements,” a senior police officer said.

The state police and the central agencies received no substantial evidence against Mr Rahim to link him to any terrorist activities.

He had landed in Kerala from Bahrain two days ago reportedly along with a woman hailing from Wayanad. She was also reportedly in custody, which the police did not confirm.

The police held Mr Rahim from the Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate Court premises where he reached to surrender Saturday afternoon following reports that they were searching for him on a tip-off on his arrival.

The southern states are on high alert since Thursday following the intelligence report that six Lashkar-e-Taiba men had infiltrated into Tamil Nadu.
