Bengaluru: Even though NEET was implemented with an idea of bringing down the number of admissions tests for medical and dental courses (both under graduate and post graduate), aspirants still have to contend with multiple counselling sessions.
According to the students, in Karnataka they need to register for at least 10 different admission counselling process by various institutes.
Consortiums like COMEDK, Karnataka Religious & Linguistic Minority Professional Colleges Association and private universities of the state have started MBBS and BDS admission process from August 18, two days after the announcement of NEET results.
Though all these institutes have provided online seat allotment process, the application fee is quite high and those applying for all these counsellings could end up shelling out close to Rs 10,000.
The students complain that all the consortiums and private universities have same time table and there is no clarity regarding cut off. "For the first time this NEET examination has been conducted. So, there is no clue about the possible cut off. So I have applied for all the universities/consortium offering medical seats and spent Rs 9,600 for the application, which is quite high," said Sharada Rajashekharan, a medical seat aspirant.
"Though compared to previous year the merit list announced by the CBSE is more transparent, the fees in all the colleges have been increased by minimum 30%. Adding to the students' woes, colleges and private universities, which have agreed for single admission test, are not ready to opt for centralised counselling. This means students need to wait and watch the results of all the institutes separately," she added.
