HC issues notice on false pollution papers by Team Labs

HYDERABAD: A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday ordered notice to the Centre and other authorities on issuing of false pollution clearance certificates by a firm. The bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji was dealing with a PIL filed by social worker P.L.N. Rao. The petitioner complained that he had made representations to the Quality Council of India on the matter but they had failed to curb the alleged illegal activities of Team Labs and Consultancy. According to the petitioner, Team Lab had prepared false environmental impact reports for getting environmental permission for industries. He contended that Team Labs in its environmental impact report (EIA) prepared for Hazelo Labs had suppressed information of the contamination of groundwater and the scarcity of drinking water this had caused. This report had mislead the Telangana Pollution Control Board and government to issue environmental permission to 24 crushing units. The matter is listed to August 1.

State staffer’s plea on delayed trial dismissed

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday on Tuesday dismissed a writ appeal of a government employee complaining of inordinate delay by the government in prosecuting him. V. Srinivasulu Reddy had earlier unsuccessfully filed a petition questioning the criminal proceedings initiated against him with a delay of six years. According to the petitioner, he was arrayed as an accused in a criminal case before the V Additional Metropolitan Magistrate in the Ranga Reddy court. He contended that speedy investigation and trial was his right under Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution. A single judge had disposed of the writ petition stating that the charges were grave, and the court was not inclined to give it closure. A bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji said the delay was caused by the erring officer since he failed to hand over the relevant documents to the authorities. It is alleged that the petitioner in abuse of his office had colluded with others and created false documents with regard to Scheduled Tribe certificates. The bench directed the trial court to complete the trial expeditiously, preferably within six months.

Notice to CPCB on PIL on Krishna Godavari Power

A two-judge bench of Telangana High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Central Pollution Control Board and other authorities to respond to a PIL questioning their inaction with regard to the Krishna Godavari Power Utilities Limited. The bench of Chief Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji was dealing with a PIL filed by P.L.N. Rao, a social worker. The petitioner complained that the Pollution Control Board and others were not taking action against the company in Wadapally village, Dharmarcherla mandal, Nalgonda district and the officials was hand in hand with industrialists and local politicians. The panel directed the matter to be listed on July 20 for further hearing.

Status quo on land where idgah is coming up

Chief Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice N Tukaramji on Tuesday directed authorities to maintain the status quo on a complaint regarding the diversion of 12 acres of the reserve forest at Chincholi, Nirmal district. The bench was dealing with a PIL filed by K. Anju Kumar Reddy stating that approval was obtained by the state government from the Centre for establishing a Vocational training and skill upgrading centre but an idgah was being established at the site. Gadi Praveen Kumar, Deputy Solicitor General, informed the court that the forest ministry had addressed a letter to the state government. Advocate-General B.S. Prasad stated that the government intended a vocational training centre. Senior counsel J. Prabhakar said an idgah alongside the vocational centre was being planned. The bench ordered status quo and posted the matter to July 25.

Notice issued over Koti Maternity Hospital

A two-judge bench of Telangana High Court on Tuesday ordered notice to the state medical and health department for its alleged failure to provide medical facilities to pregnant women. Rapolu Bhaskar, a practicing advocate, would complain in his PIL that the Koti Government Maternity Hospital had failed to provide the facilities including general check-up. He complained that the authorities failed to extend such benefits to infants. The bench of Chief Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji said it would hear the case on July 25.

Notice over idgah in Narayanpet

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday issued a notice in yet another taken-up PIL on the construction of an idgah in the middle of Narayanpet town which was challenged by A. Satyanarayana a local resident. He contended that the construction was not only without permission but also on land belonging to the government and local municipality. The bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji while issued notice and directed the matter to be listed on July 27.
