Officials asked to ensure city kept clean.

Rajahmundry: In a bid to showcase the city as clean and well maintained for the ensuing Swachh Survekshan survey in January that would help it attain a better rank, municipal commissioner Sumit Kumar Gandhi directed officials to clear posters and grow plants on road medians. He also asked them to clear construction debris being dumped on roads.

Taking part in a meeting here on Saturday, the municipal commissioner underlined the importance of proper maintenance of sanitation and not allowing open dumping of garbage on streets and public places. He stressed on the need to make provision for garbage bins where people can dispose their waste. He wanted these bins to be cleared on a regular basis.

The commissioner pointed out that, under Swachh Andhra Mission, as many as 972 garbage bins have been sanctioned to the city. He felt the need to place them based on the requirement of the area to avoid dumping of garbage openly. He asked the authorities to impress upon the residents of buildings that they were responsible for dumping of construction debris on the roads that cause hardships to local residents and commuters and felt the need to clear it.

The commissioner expressed satisfaction over the functioning of five teams in supervising the implementation of ban on use of plastic material in the city and called for fixing a schedule for the team from next week to implement plastic ban in a more effective manner. He asked the officials to pay more attention on assessment of properties to impose tax properly.
