Chennai to remain cloudy

Even as rain continues to lash delta region, it would lessen in the coming days ahead, the weather expert noted.

Chennai: The Regional Meteorological Centre on Saturday predicted moderate to heavy rain in delta and southern districts for next two days, while Chennai would remain cloudy.

According to RMC, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Tiruppur districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal district of Puducherry in the next two days.

In Chennai, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy and maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32 and 25 degree Celsius, the weathermen said. Addressing the media, Dr Puviyarasan, director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre, said that the intensity of rain in delta and southern districts would gradually reduce. “Even as rain continues to lash delta region, it would lessen in the coming days ahead,” the weather expert noted.

“Some of the convection currently seen in and around delta districts will eventually move towards South Tamil Nadu over the next two days. This is likely to bring isolated heavy rains in the region particularly around Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts,” the weather expert noted.

Also places along the Western Ghats will see another day of rainfall activity with moderate to heavy spells likely to be seen in both Tamil Nadu and Kerala, he noted.

“The last two days have seen many places in delta districts recorded moderate to heavy spells of rains making things extremely difficult for the people still reeling under the effects of Cyclone Gaja last week,” said a weather blogger.

The blogger noted, “starting from Sunday, we are seeing the effect of dry Northerlies descending down the latitudes. North Tamil Nadu is already seeing the effect of this with Chennai seeing lower early morning temperature on Saturday compared to Friday.”
