Edappadi K Palaniswami honours kin of 20 organ donors

Edappadi K. Palaniswami released the mobile application along with the annual report of Transtan.

CHENNAI: In order to strengthen the efforts to increase the number of organ transplantations in the state, Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (Transtan) launched the Transtan government web domain and organ donor smartphone application on Friday. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami released the mobile application along with the annual report of Transtan.

The mobile application launched by Transtan will facilitate organ donors to register for organ donation and answer their queries on organ donation.
Tamil Nadu leads in organ transplantation all over the country with a total number of 1,059 donors from the state and a remarkable number of 5,953 organ transplants since 2008.

To acknowledge and extend gratitude to organ donors and their families, Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (Transtan) also honoured the organ donors.
Chief Minister honoured the families of 20 deceased organ donors and felicitated the experts in the field of organ transplantation that included 20 transplant experts, 8 staff nurses, 4 transplant co-coordinators and an ambulance driver.

He appreciated the voluntary efforts of families of organ donors to come forward in times of grief to provide a new lease of life to others by donating the organs of their beloved ones. Meanwhile, officials from Transtan said that the mobile application will help the department to reduce the wait list of patients who are in need of organ transplants by providing the organ donor direct registration with the help of a smartphone application and facilitating easy procedure to register for the organ transplant.
