Telangana to claim surplus water share

KCR said that he will write to PM and also send a delegation, led by T. Harish Rao, along with party MPs, to New Delhi in this regard soon.

Hyderabad: The TS government has decided to seek its share of the 1,500 tmc ft of surplus Godavari waters from the Centre. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that he will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also send a delegation, led by irrigation minister T. Harish Rao, along with party MPs, to New Delhi in this regard soon.

“Godavari’s assured water is 1,480 tmc ft. TS was allocated 950 tmc ft. Besides the 1,480 tmc ft, Godavari has an additional 3,000 tmc ft. Of this, the assured water is 1,500 TMC and the other 1,500 tmc ft is surplus. I will write to the PM and send Harish Rao with TRS MPs to Delhi to seek TS share of surplus water in addition to already allocated 950 tmc ft,” Mr Rao said.

He added, “Through diplomacy, will get not only get 950 tmc ft, but an additional 700 to 800 tmc ft of surplus waters that could help irrigate 50to 60 lakh acres.” from Kaleshwaram and Medigadda.”

Complimenting Mr Harish Rao for successfully clinching the agreement with Maharashtra, The CM said that come what may, the state will bring Kaleshwaram waters to North Telangana including Warangal, Nalgonda, Karimnagar and Medak by 2018 and ensure Nizamsagar, SRSP waters for two crops.

“You (Congress leaders) don’t have brains, idea, planning and commitment. If Congress, TD governments had constructed projects, TS would not have faced drought and farmers not suffered for 60 years. If irrigation was provided for 98 lakh acres, where did the water go? Where was the need for Telangana movement?” he questioned.
