Hyderabad: Car driver without helmet gets challan

Police officials dismissed the incident as a rare' mistake that happened while the cop was entering the violation in his tablet computer.

Hyderabad: Are you driving a car in the city? Don’t forget to wear a helmet. Otherwise, you may be challaned by the traffic police. On Tuesday, taxi driver Vishnu actually got fined for this ‘offence’ in Somajiguda.

“While driving, I was stopped by the traffic police. Cops asked me to show the documents, and I did. I was not aware that I had got a challan for not wearing a helmet while driving a car. I discovered that only today’’, Vishnu told Deccan Chronicle.

The traffic police sent a message to the owner of the cab that a challan has been issued on the vehicle number TS09ES4716 for the traffic violation of not wearing a helmet and was directed to pay Rs 100.

It held out a threat that if the car owner does not pay the fine, a legal procedure would be initiated against him.

Police officials dismissed the incident as a ‘rare’ mistake that happened while the cop was entering the violation in his tablet computer.

“It is a mistake. Such mistakes do happen as cops challan several drivers in a day,” DCP Traffic Ranganath said.
