Aviation sector in India set for take off: Experts

The global meet witnessed industry stalwarts, participants from a major airline and aviation companies.

Bengaluru: Aviation experts see a rapid growth in air traffic and a huge opportunity for the growth of aviation sector in India.

At an international conference on ‘Future of Aviation and Aerospace 2018’, hosted by the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore in collaboration with Toulouse Business School, Airbus India President Dr Dwarkanath said that air traffic in Asia Pacific region is estimated to grow by 4.5% in the next 20 years.

“Make in India’ is at the heart of our strategy and we continuously work on Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data and blockchain to bring quick solutions,” he added.

The global meet witnessed industry stalwarts, participants from a major airline and aviation companies. Providing an overview of the aviation sector in India, Dr. G Raghuram, Director IIM B’lore, said, “Sensing the growing opportunity of the aviation sector in India, IIMB along with TBS is providing a General Management Programme for Aerospace and Aviation Executives (GMAE) for professionals to combine technical skills with managerial acumen to take up leadership roles in this sector.”

The panel discussion on startups and their contribution to aerospace and aviation industry drew attention to corporates mentoring startups by giving them real-time projects.

The discussion highlighted the challenge of identifying the right team and stakeholder to take the technology forward. Jet Airways CEO Vinay Dubey observed that the Indian aviation industry, has great growth opportunities and building airports will play a significant role.
