2 LeT militants gunned down in Jammu and Kashmir

“The operation was launched following a tip off,â€added a police spokesman.

SRINAGAR: The police in Jammu and Kashmir said on Tuesday that two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants who were planning to target the security forces and civilians ahead of the Republic Day, were killed in an encounter in Ganderbal district of the State on Tuesday.

This comes about a week after the security forces gunned down LeT’s divisional commander Abu Musaib in a similar clash in neighbouring Hajin area of Bandipore district.

A statement issued following Tuesday’s fire fight in Ganderbal's Hadoora, Shuhama village, about 30-km north of summer capital Srinagar, said that the members of the J&K police’s counterinsurgency Special Operations Group (SOG) along with the troops from Army’s 5 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF jawans laid siege to it on receiving information about the presence of the militant duo. “The operation was launched following a tip off,” added a police spokesman.
