His father N. Swamy, 50, a farmer, tied one end of the rope to a big tree and the other end around his waist, and ventured into the water.

Hyderabad: In an attempt to save his son from being washed away in a stream, a 50-year-old farmer drowned in Medak on Friday morning.

On Friday morning, N. Srinivas, 25, of Damaran-cha in Veldurthi mandal drove to Kongodu in Kulcharam mandal to pick up passengers. On the outskirts of the village, he had to cross the Allivagu culvert, on which water was flowing.

As he was getting late, he kept driving. “Midway my vehicle got stuck and it was pushed to a corner. I climbed on top of the car and called my father, who came with a rope to help me.” Srinivas said.

His father N. Swamy, 50, a farmer, tied one end of the rope to a big tree and the other end around his waist, and ventured into the water. Midway, the rope came loose and he was washed away. When Srinivas raised an alarm, villagers rushed to the spot and recovered Swamy’s body. Police registered a case of suspicious death.
