Heavy vehicles banned on Rajamahendravaram - Kovvuru road-cum-rail bridge

KAKINADA: East Godavari district collector K. Madhavi Latha has issued orders banning the movement of heavy vehicles and buses over the road-cum-railway bridge connecting Rajamahendravaram and Kovvuru across River Godavari from Sunday.

She said the decision has been taken as the bridge has completed 45 years of its estimated lifetime of 65 years. An expert committee had examined the road-cum-rail bridge and submitted a report. It suggested that heavy vehicles should no longer move on the bridge.

The collector said henceforth, only two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and cars will be allowed on the road-cum-rail bridge.

Heavy vehicles can cross the Godavari River using the Gammon (fourth) bridge, she stated.
