Andal controversy: BJP welcomes Tamil daily editor's apology

K. Vaidyanathan, editor of Tamil daily Dinamani, on Tuesday, apologised for publishing a controversial article on goddess Andal.

Chennai: BJP national secretary H. Raja has welcomed the “act” of Dinamani editor Vaidyanathan, offering prayers to goddess Andal in Sriviliputhur and apologising for the controversial article.

K. Vaidyanathan, editor of Tamil daily Dinamani, on Tuesday, apologised for publishing a controversial article on goddess Andal penned by lyricist Vairamuthu in his paper.

The veteran journalist, went to the Andal temple in Srivilliputhur, expressed regret and tendered an apology for the article, which hurt the sentiments of Hindus, said Sadagopa Ramanuja Jeer, leader of the Vaishnavites. He, however, said that agitation would continue till Vairamuthu apologised at the temple.

Taking note of the development, BJP's H Raja welcomed Mr Vaidyanathan's “act.” “Dinamani editor Vaidyanathan has gone to Srivilliputhur, offered prayers to goddess Andal and apologised for the article. To err is human. We welcome his gesture and deem the issue as closed as far as Vaidyanathan is concerned. Let Hindu unity and awareness continue,” he tweeted.
