Hyderabad to get first tramway

The GHMC's plan is to introduce tramway from Moazzamjahi market to Charminar, a distance of 2.9 km.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad will have its first tramway transport system, after competition of the Metro Rail project. The proposed new public transport facility will come up in the Old City.

The GHMC’s plan is to introduce tramway from Moazzamjahi market to Charminar, a distance of 2.9 km, and another from the Qutub Shahi tombs to Golconda.

What is planned is a transport system on lines of what exists in the city of Bordeaux in France. Tramways can be provided in leaner time with lesser space, with all basic amenities, Hyderabad Mayor Bontha Rammohan has said at a day-long seminar attended by GMHC brass and a delegation from France.

The workshop focused on the public transpor-tation system and Charminar Pedestriani-sation Project.

The works pertaining to Charminar project and Hyderabad Metro Rail are taken up on a priority basis. After the completion of these projects, the tramway transportation system will be taken up in coordination with a team of experts from France. This system would be introduced not only in and around Charminar but also in nearby areas. It would be a new attraction to tourists.
