Hyderabad: The Minorities Commission panel seeks quota for all Muslims

The Minorities Commission on Thursday requested the State Backward Classes Commission for an additional 8 per cent reservation for Muslims.

Hyderabad: The Minorities Commission on Thursday requested the TS State Backward Classes Commission for an additional 8 per cent reservation for Muslims over and above the 4 per cent already given, irrespective of sects and beliefs, but on their socio-economic parameters, which could be fixed by the commission.

The delegation lead by chairman Abid Rasool Khan told the BC Commission that the 4 per cent reservation was given to 14 identified communities among Muslims. Excluding the poor, backward and eligible and needy sections of Muslims only on the ground that they did not hail from these 14 communities was unjustified, Mr Rasool Khan said.

He requested the BC Commission to collect detailed information with regard to the Socio-Economic Survey before submitting its findings to the government.
