BBMP misusing flood relief funds, says anti-graft forum

The recent heavy down pours had led to five deaths and inundation of numerous houses.

BENGALURU: The Forum Against Corruption has filed a complaint with ACB and BMTF against the BBMP for the misuse of money sanctioned as compensation to people affected by the recent flooding in the city.

The recent heavy down pours had led to five deaths and inundation of numerous houses. The BBMP had sanctioned relief funds for all the affected victims.
The Forum alleged that the genuine beneficiaries did not receive any funds, while those not affected by the rains got it.

The first and second floor people have received the funds whereas the houses at the ground floor have not received any funds.

There are no storm water drains near Mahalakshmi Layout, Marappanapalya and Gowtham Nagar, and the residents were not affected by the rains, but they still got relief. Around 86 residents were provided a total of Rs 4.47 lakh, but the genuine beneficiaries did not get any.

The forum alleged that there are many other places where crores of rupees have been misused.

The forum called for action against officials responsible for the misuse of funds. They requested the government to ensure that the relief funds reached the flood affected.
