Ambati confident of completing Polavaram by December 2025

Vijayawada : Water resources minister Ambati Rambabu announced on Friday that state government intends to complete the Polavaram irrigation project by December 2025.

Responding to a query in legislative council during question hour on providing compensation to evacuees of Polavaram project, the minister pointed out that 123 habitations of 20,946 project displaced families are getting affected at the 41.15-metre contour level. The affected families have so far been paid ₹836.64 crore.

Rambabu maintained that they had planned to complete the execution of the project early. But the mistakes committed by previous Telugu Desam government while taking up construction of the diaphragm wall and subsequent damage to it during the floods have delayed the project.

He said they are getting ready to either repair the damaged portion of the D-wall or construct a new D-wall parallel to the existing one.

The minister assured the house that their government will not impound water in the Polavaram project up to 41.15-metre contour level unless all project-affected families at that level have been provided the relief, rehabilitation and resettlement package.
