Army called in by GHMC as rain lashes Hyderabad

The GHMC has asked Army officials to inspect Begumpet, Nizampet, Alwal and Hakimpet areas, especially low-lying colonies.

Hyderabad: The GHMC has asked the Army for help in relief operations in the city. As per Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s directions, GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy on Thursday met defence officials and discussed the situation in the city following two days of rain. The GHMC has asked Army officials to inspect Begumpet, Nizampet, Alwal and Hakimpet areas, especially low-lying colonies.

Demolition drive by civic body
The GHMC has asked the Army and NDRF for help in relief operations in the city. The Army has offered to help in shifting people by boats, and in rehabilitation operations. Based on the intensity of rain, the GHMC will vacate residents from 50 colonies. Army officials will inspect vulnerable pockets, narrow lanes and areas close to lakes.

The city was lashed by 3 cm of rain on Thursday. Three buildings collapsed and two persons were injured. The GHMC demolished 13 old and dilapidated buildings including those located H. No.1-2-457 to 460, Domalaguda.

LB Nagar, Uppal, Kapra, Malkajgiri, Alwal, Quthbulla-pur have been put on alert. The Hasmatpet Nala was flowing above the road level. West Marredpally received 4 cm, Malkajgiri, Chilkalguda, Mon-da Market, Trimulgherry, Fe-ver Hospital, Balanagar 3 cm.
