Telangana among top 10 states in country with most number of districts
Hyderabad: With the state government issuing the preliminary notification for creation of 17 districts on Monday, taking the total to 27 districts, TS is now among the top 10 states in the country with the most number of districts.
The TS government has also created 15 new revenue divisions and 46 new mandals. Hyderabad district has been kept unchanged, while the name of Ranga Reddy district has been retained even it was trifurcated.
Earlier, it was proposed to reorganise RR district as Vikarabad, Malkajgiri and Shamshad districts, but the government retained RR district with Vikarabad as its headquarters.
The list of new districts has been kept in public domain to enable people to lodge objections or give suggestions on the new districts till one month. The final notification will be issued next month and new districts will come into existence from Dasara, October 11.
There are no changes in the draft notification following the all-party meeting on Saturday as government stuck to its earlier decision on the new district proposals and ignored the suggestions and demands made by Opposition parties.
Deputy Chief Minister Mohd. Mahmood Ali released the preliminary notification at the Secretariat on Monday. “The new districts are being created not for political needs but for better administration and overall development of all the areas in the state. A huge exercise was done for the purpose. The CM himself spent a few months on reorganisation of districts by holding marathon meetings with Cabinet ministers and senior officials. New districts were decided on scientific grounds and not on political grounds,” Mr Ali said.
The preliminary notification was issued for creation of 17 new districts, 15 new revenue divisions and 46 new mandals. With this, the number of districts in the state has increased to 27, revenue divisions to 60 and mandals to 505.
The notification was issued under sub-section (5) of Section 3 of the Telangana District (Formation) Act, 1974 (Act 7 of 1974). Objections or suggestions should be given in writing in English, Telugu or Urdu and should be addressed to the
collector within 30 days from the date of notification.
