Secunderabad: Catching a train? Better leave early

Secunderabad train station routes hit by Metro work.

Hyderabad: Citizens arriving at the Secunderabad Railway Station via the Sardar Patel, Rashtra Pathi, Mahatma Gandhi or Sarojini Devi roads, over the next few days, must start early. Ongoing metro rail works at crucial points along these routes have slowed traffic movement considerably —particularly at the notoriously clogged Clock Tower junction where only 40-feet of the 120-feet carriage way is available now for motorists moving towards the busy train station.

It’s a similar scene of chaos at Blue Sea point and Regimental Bazar, leading up to Oliphanta Bridge where traffic’s barely moving. The metro congestion is only adding to the already terrible condition of roads at Bhoiguda, Chilkalguda, Padmaraonagar, Musheerabad and Mettuguda where traffic jams have been a common phenomenon.

Police has also announced there would be traffic restrictions in place for Bonalu — from 4 am on Sunday to 10 pm on Monday — on various routes in Secunderabad. It is advised that motorists travelling to work and passengers hoping to catch their trains leave early from home particularly during these days. The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Mr A. Mutyam Reddy said though a 30-feet carriageway at the Clock Tower power sub-station side and another 40-feet of road were available on either sides of the new pillar being constructed at the Clock Tower junction, the 30-feet road had been barricaded by metro authorities. Metro Rail officials said the pillar work is likely to be completed within the next four to five days after which the other 30 feet of road will be thrown open to motorists.
