Work commences on AIIMS site in Madurai

The 750 bedded medical institution with around 50 specialized departments will have 100 seats for MBBS, 60 seats for nursing students.

Chennai: After inspection of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) site at Thoppur in Madurai by health minister C. Vijayabaskar and health secretary J. Radhakrishnan along with other senior officials, the work has begun.

To comply with the conditions stated by health and family welfare ministry, state health department is to set up a roadway connecting AIIMS to four-lane highway. While a drinking water project in Melur has agreed to supply 5MLD of water to the institution, the government authorities will provide electric power to the tune of 20MW.

State health department officials said that Indian Oil Corporation has agreed to set up its pipeline around 60 feet away from the AIIMS site and the work has started. The 750 bedded medical institution with around 50 specialized departments will have 100 seats for MBBS, 60 seats for nursing students.
