Finally, Bengaluru gets mechanical sweepers

Sweepers will be allotted to major roads and important roads and subsequently to almost all main roads in the city.

Bengaluru: Finally, mechanical sweepers which promise to keep the city roads free from dust and pollution have arrived. “Of the 16 machines, the first two sweepers have reached Bengaluru, seven are on the way, while seven more will arrive in July,” posted BBMP joint commissioner for solid waste management Sarfaraz Khan on his Facebook wall.

His post went on to say that the state government has approved 16 more machines this year and these sweepers will reduce the risk for pourakarmikas, who sweep the main roads. “The machines are undergoing checks and will formally start working from first week of May. Sweepers will be allotted to major roads and important roads and subsequently to almost all main roads in the city. We are also in the process of checking smaller machines to be used in residential areas and markets" he said.
