Around 40 Belagavi councillors had approached the court questioning the show-cause notices.

BENGALURU: The High Court on Monday refused to interfere with the state government’s order to issue show-cause notice to Belagavi Mayor Sarita Viraj Patil and Deputy Mayor Sanjay M. Shinde for their alleged involvement in anti-state activities and acting in a manner not befitting the post of mayor and deputy mayor.

Around 40 Belagavi councillors had approached the court questioning the show-cause notices.

The government advocate argued that it was a show-cause issued to the mayor and deputy mayor, seeking their replies in the alleged incident where Mayor and Deputy Mayor had led a public rally organised by the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti as part of its ‘Black Day’ on November 1, which was also the Karnataka Rajyotsava Day. Refusing to interfere in the mater, the court disposed of the petition.
