Chennai: IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) released the name of six foreign countries including three SAARC nations where the IIT-JEE (advanced) is to be held in 2017.
In the additional information brochure to the foreign candidates, JAB said the exam centres will be set up in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Dubai (UAE), Kathmandu (Nepal) and Singapore.
Based on their performance in the exam the students can select IITs for undergrad courses. Earlier, it was expected that the entrance exam to the premier institutions would be conducted for the first time in all SAARC nations except Pakistan. According to sources, the new list was sent by the Ministry of Human Resources Development.
The choice of Ethiopia in the list has raised curiosity. “Ethiopia was chosen by Ministry of External Affairs as the first country in Africa to host the IIT-JEE (advanced). In Dubai we are already conducting JEE for the students who are studying in the CBSE schools,” said Bhaskar Ramamurthi, director, IIT Madras.
Candidates can directly appear for JEE (advanced) exam. But, they must have secured at least 75 per cent aggregate marks in class 12 (or equivalent) board examination. “To register for JEE exams foreign candidates need to upload the birth certificate, class 12 mark-sheet and certificate for 75 per cent cut-off, identity proof of the candidate, citizenship certificate and passport of both the parents," JAB said. For B.Arch programme, successful candidates are required to come to one of the zonal IITs to write the test. Seats available to foreign nationals would be in addition to the existing seats and will not result in reduction of seats available to Indian students. These seats can't exceed 10 per cent of the total seats in each course offered by the IITs.
