Police Commissionerate to be set up soon in Nizamabad

Nizamabad is prone to offences as the district borders Maharashtra and Karnataka states.

Nizamabad:

Police commissionerate will be set up in Nizamabad soon as the state government issues orders. It is believed that the decision will improve the law and order situation in and around the city. The existing five police stations, traffic, women, central crime station and rural police stations will be included in the commissionerate.

Nizamabad is prone to offences as the district borders Maharashtra and Karnataka states. Inter-state dacoit gangs frequently commit thefts in the city. In addition road accidents, thefts, murders, white collar offences are on the rise. Traffic snarls are also frequently seen in the city.

There has been no upgradation in the police system in Nizamabad for the last 20 years. All existing police stations in district headquarters were set up in early 1990s. Crime rate has drastically increased in the city. In some police stations, inspector cadre officers were posted as station house officers.

In this context, setting up of police commissionerate in Nizamabad will improve the law and order situation. A senior police officer in the rank of DIG may be posted as police commissioner (CP) and superintendent of police officers will be posted as deputy commissioner of police within city limits.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle the police officer said that commissionerate status for Nizamabad city will be useful for close monitoring of administration.

Posting of additional officers would benefit the investigation, law and order situation, he said. Nizamabad is a fast growing city and it requires regular policing, he added.
