Kozhikode cops lead initiative to donate blood regularly

Law enforcers volunteer to compulsorily donate blood every 3 months, campaign among people.

KOZHIKODE: Police in Kozhikode city have been on a unique mission for the last six months unlike their counterparts elsewhere. They have themselves decided to make it mandatory to donate blood every three months and are campaigning in the public for blood donation. Till date, more than 400 officers have donated blood in different hospitals and they roped in more than 600 people to donate blood.

On October 1, as part of the National Voluntary blood donation day, the police team, guided by Kasaba CI Pramod P., will launch a special drive on the premises of mofussil bus stand, targeting the passengers. The voluntary donors can also register at the police aid post in the bus stand there and Palayam. “The donors as well as the needy people can register at the aid posts. They can also call 9497987178 or 9497980710 to register and to request blood. When more donors show willingness, we usually ask them to meet at a point so that police can provide them with transport to the various hospitals. This facility is open at almost all the prominent government hospitals. Now that the government officials are provided with a four-day casual leave for voluntary blood donation, more people will be making use of the opportunity apart from police,” said Mr Pramod.

The prerequisite for donating blood is that the donors should be aged between 18 and 50 and their weight should be more than 55kg. The CI added that the drive also encourages to follow healthy habits before donating blood. He added that though there are several voluntary donors, the amount of quality blood they receive was less.
