TTV Dhinakaran visits party cadres in Kovai jail

Police accused of showing biased attitude.

Coimbatore: Legal action will be taken against the Coimbatore district police in connection with the ‘false cases’ booked against Amma Makkal Munetra Kazhagam (AMMK) cadres in Coimbatore, said TTV Dhinakaran, general secretary of the party and independent MLA, here on Monday.

Recently, district police arrested 56 AMMK cadres including two former MLAs Challenger Durai and Ma Pa Rokini, following a road roko after a group clash with AIADMK cadres near Vadavalli.

The AMMK cadres were arrested on charges of creating public nuisance and obstructing officials from carrying out their duties. The 56 members were produced in court and jailed. Of the 56, five including former MLA Challenger Durai, were included in an ‘attempt to murder case’, allegedly for attacking AIADMK cadres.

In a bid to keep his cadres in good humour, the party’s general secretary Mr. Dhinakaran met the cadres at the Coimbatore central prison on Monday.

Speaking to the media later, he said, “police have shown a biased attitude. The Perur DSP threatened the owner of the private hall for the AMMK meeting. However, the meeting was conducted successfully. The AIADMK cadres who cannot stomach the growth of our party started the attack first by hurling stones and damaging the cars of our functionaries. Instead of taking action against them, police arrested AMMK cadres and also booked our district secretary Challenger Durai in an attempt to murder case. “ “We have enough evidence to move court and police will face the further consequences,” added Mr. Dhinakaran.
