Inform steps taken to weed out unqualified staff in law colleges: Madras HC

The judge said the report should also contain details of the sanctioned teaching posts in Dr Ambedkar Law University.

Chennai: Madras high court has directed the vice-chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar law university to submit a report on actions initiated to remove unqualified teaching staff and other staff.

Justice S.M. Subramaniam gave the directive while passing interim orders on a petition filed by D. Shankar, a professor of Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University, which sought to quash an order passed by the university and consequently, direct the university to reinstate him as registrar of the university.

The judge said the report should contain details of actions taken for verification of credentials and certificates and other aspects of the teaching staff of the universities.

The qualifications are prescribed by the University Grants Commission for appointment to the posts of teaching staff including professor, assistant professor, head of the department and principal, in law colleges and the law universities. The details of the teaching staff serving in the Dr Ambedkar Law University and their educational and other qualifications with reference to the qualifications have been prescribed by the UGC, the judge added.

The judge said the report should also contain details of the sanctioned teaching posts in Dr Ambedkar Law University. The details of the permanent teaching staff who were working in the university and the details of the temporary teaching staff and other staff working in the university including guest lecturers. The method of selection to be adopted for recruitment to these teaching staff by the university for the purpose of appointment. The report should also contain the details of the petitioner, the judge added and posted to September 25, further hearing of the case.
